I have a mid-2014 13" rMBP and would like to know the best external monitor for basic work and video watching. I want a monitor which is not lower than my 2560x1600 display and supports my Mac as I do not want to downgrade in graphics. I have a budget of $1,000 but may be flexible to $1,100. I'd like either 24 or 27" and 4K if possible, with the panel quality of all Apple products (iMac, MBP, iPad, etc.).

A new thunderbolt display should run you at around 800$ and goes perfectly with your rmbp.
