I want an external monitor around 19-22". What are some good ones that replicate the awesomeness of the LED backlight screen that is in my MBP?

I was looking at some dell ones.

Why not the 20' Cinema Display? Although you might wait till Macworld so they are refreshed and you can snag a deal on one.

They are a bit too expensive, but I guess I would have to spend that much to match the quality of the LED backlight screen of the MBP?

The screen on the MBP is nice, but it doesn't compare to IPS/MVA/PVA LCDs. That being said, pretty much any non-TN panel will outdo the "awesomeness" of your MBP screen.

On a budget - I would choose the dell 2005fpw. Easily found and cheap - and is an IPS panel. Make sure you get the newer revision though - the older revisions seem to exhibit more issues with backlight bleed and humming noises.

Indeed. It's still a 6-bit TN panel so the LED backlight's benefits are limited to instant-on and possibly more uniform backlight.

If 19-22" is your size limit for whatever reasons, check out the Lenovo L220X. It's one of the few 1920x1200 resolution, 22" S-PVA monitors out there.

The 4,1 MBP is the previous generation one. It does NOT have a LED backlit screen. I'd also wait until Macworld because if they refresh their Cinema Display line, you'll find great clearance discounts.

Mid 2007 15" MBPs and later all have LED backlighting. I am fairly certain it is under the same 4,1 MBP identity.

I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I think the only ones that have LED backlit displays are the new ones. Anyway, about the guy who wrote "your text-fonting will look ugly if u dont buy an apple monitor.." It's not true, you certainly do not need an ACD to display good "text fonting". There are pretty good non-Apple displays around.

I'm 100% sure you're incorrect about that. From my previous post, mid 2007 15" MBPs and later all have LED backlighting. That is a fact.

Seconded. The 2nd Generation Cinema Displays did not have LED backlighting, but the new revision does. They switched to LED backlighting sometime in 2007 for the Macbook Pro.

I'm here with my MBP 3.1 (SR) and I can assure you it has LED backlighting.

well, i tried 3 bands of monitors and yes, fonting looks ugly! you can see anti-aliasing colors between ur letters and they do not have the same black fill....it's pretty disturbing
