I need to purchase a networked hard drive for both data storage and backup for a couple computers (using Time Machine).

I was going to buy a Time Capsule but I've read too many negative reviews about the massive failures at 18 months. I considered a Drobo, but have also read many very negative reviews.

One person recommended a HP MediaSmart server. Any other suggestions?

I will also need a second drive to backup this network drive. I could use advice on hardware and setup for that as well. -Thanks

Thanks. I haven't looked at the Iomega drive yet. Looks like you get quite a bit for the money.

I'm also looking at the Buffalo, DLink, Drobo, Lacie. Any advice or opinions would be appreciated. Best for reliability and Mac compatibility.

Drobo and DroboPro are friggin awesome.

Backups, by definition, are supposed to be 100% perfect. None is.

The most common errors are when the system is rebuilding itself after one disk fails. Drobo(pro) has the option for dual-disk redundancy (protection against two drives failing.)

Add in an awesome interface and the ability to use any mixture of drives capacities, SOLD!
