So I am upgrading my daughters Macbook Air's to M2 silicon. I get what is left over. The choice:

2014 with the Haswell processor, i7 1.7Ghz and 8GB RAM

Or

2015 with the Broadwell processor i5 1.6Ghz and 4GB RAM

Which will be faster? Or is it too close to call?

I had to go with the 2015 model in the end as the 2014 trackpad gave up working. I was thinking about upgrading the SSD from the original Apple one is it really worthwhile?

Absolutely not in my opinion. With the slow processor and little memory and old OS this Mac is on its way out and you could get a much faster used windows laptop if you sold this MacBook as is and added the SSD upgrade money on top. You will notice how slow it is and beyond typing emails it wont be a good experience. But if you’re just using it for light office work you wouldn’t need the SSD upgrade.

So either way I don’t see upgrading the SSD to be worthwhile.
