I am a Film Production student. I currently own a G4 Powerbook but am looking to upgrade. However, I am not sure what would be the best route to go. I would love to keep the portability of a laptop, however would the built-in specs suffice? I know with laptops you are more limited as to how much you can upgrade... desktops tend to be a bit more flexible. I need to ensure that I have a good enough graphics card to handle HD footage, which I will be editing with Final Cut Pro.

Because this new purchase may end up replacing both my Powerbook and my Dell PC (desktop) I need the capabilities to handle videoediting, Photoshop, and basic functions such as e-mail, browsing, and documents. Plus the occasional game...when I can find time.

Also, an employee at my campus computer store recommended the Time Capsule for my external hard drive. Typically my major requires we have Firewire capabilities but I already have a portable hard drive with such and thus this new external will be for personal usage. HOWEVER, it would still be used for video projects. So, would the WiFi be able to handle the data or should I look elsewhere for another external?

Thanks in advance for any advice! I know that it would only be a rumor, but if anyone believes that any upgrades within the next year or two may affect my video-editing capabilities please let me know... a college budget only allows for so many upgrades!! But if said upgrades are minute and wouldn't affect my ability to do what I need to, then great. :)
