Best OS for Final Cut Express 4?

Is anyone still actually using this? I've read very good things about it and have obtained a hard copy for nowt!! My 2012 refurb MBP came with High Sierra (shipped with LION) and FCE4 won't run on this! I'm debating going back to Sierra or any other that FC Express 4 will run on. I don't like iMovie very much at all.

I also wanna use Logic Pro X and Ableton. Any thoughts?

Are there any notes for FCE4 that indicate what the "minimum OS requirements" are for it?

If you can't ascertain that, I think I'd "work it out" this way:
- Get an external drive of some sort (even a USB flashdrive 32gb would work).
- Try installing Low Sierra onto the flashdrive, then see if FCE4 will run using that.
- If it won't, then try El Capitan and repeat with FCE4.
- If that won't, try Yosemite, etc.
If you do it this way (using an external drive), you don't have to keep re-installing on your MBPro until you KNOW IN ADVANCE what solution will work.

For audio, I recommend Cubase over anything else. The perfect blend of power and "ease of usage". Perhaps that's just me.
