I know I could just run outlook via parallels, but is there a alternative(s) native to OS X? I could use Thunderbird for email and iCal for calendar, but could those sync with window mobile phones?

Microsoft Entourage shares its name with a great show on HBO, and it also does all the things you wanted. Its like a double bonus.
I do know about MissingSync, but since it only syncs with Entourage, and I haven't gotten Entourage to play nice with hotmail, I can't get my emails.
I'd very much like to use MissingSync + Entourage if I could find a way to sync with hotmail (standard account).
Is it possible to use Mail with Hotmail? I think you need FreePOP or something, but I haven't tried it.
I had been using Entourage for several years but had a corrupted
database issue (common problem with Entourage, M$ thought nobody would ever have more than 2 Gigs of email
) that led me to look elsewhere. Until last month I was using Mailsmith which was excellent, but Bento 2 integrates with Mail so I have gone to Mail now and bought 2 utility add-ons for it: Mail Act-On 2 and MailTags 2
I use SpamSieve for spam filtering.

The two gig issue was fixed in Entourage 2004. Currently, my Entourage 2008 database for my work account is well over 20 GB and working fine. There's a lot of improvements in Entourage 2008 for database performance and stability, and we've continued to make improvements in the subsequent service packs.

Entourage (both 2004 and 2008) worked perfectly well with my Hotmail account, so you probably had a configuration/firewall issue.
