It's time to do some spring cleaning in regards to my photo library. For the longest timer I did it manually because I never took a particular liking to any specific photo program. I think I may need to start working with one or two apps exclusively in order to speed things up a bit.
My library is about 8GB in size, so it's not out of control yet. It's being backed up in Time Machine and CrashPlan. I think my biggest issue is photo duplicates that I imported twice by mistake.
I have the following applications at my disposal:
-- Aperture (latest version before Apple migrated to Photos)
-- iPhoto (I installed the latest Mac OS update and it left iPhoto)
-- Photos
-- Pixelmator
What bothers me about photo applications is when it saves all my photos in a library file. I would much rather import my photos, make a backup of the originals on my own, then edit the photos. When I make an edit, I'd like it to save the photo over itself instead of making multiple copies. Otherwise I'm stuck with photos in multiple places, or I end up having duplicates scattered across the system. Am I using photo applications wrong or is this the norm for a lot of applications? I'm trying my best to consolidate, remove photos, and keep a neat and tidy set in one place.
Any suggestions?
