I currently have a 2yr old 15" MBP and have decided I really want a smaller 13". However, I don't yet want to buy a new one as I'd rather wait for the redesigned MBP I assume will be coming later in the year/early 2012.

So I want to sell my 15" and get a not-too-old 13". Two questions:

1. Where is a good place to buy that is not eBay?
2. How can I tell which gen a 2nd hand MBP is? Ideally I want the generation that's just been replaced.

Best place is the Apple Online Store in the refurb department. Apple is meticulous at making sure that their refurbs are like new. They also include the same one year warranty as their new products, including Apple Care eligibility. Here is a link to the store.

If not eBay then craigslist or possibly a local independent Apple reseller.

You can tell the generation by the model number or serial number (look up the serial # on Apples support site)

Actually refurb'ed Apples are a fair amount less then new. Current generation 13" MBP is 15% off, and the prior generation is 25% off only $899, that is a pretty good price
