Refurb Store

Hi Liketom,

Are you aware of the Apple Refurb stores - the benefit there, being that you get a previously owned product with a 1 year warranty from Apple. If you live in the US the refurb store is open all the time, but if you're in Britain it's only open on Wednesdays from 10am onwards. (The link is down the right hand side of the main Apple Store page).

I bought my PB there and have had no problems with it at all - it was £400 odd cheaper than the others at the time. Also, check out the 'Old Products' or whatever it is section down the left hand side of the Apple Store (UK), as this has my PB at a discounted price, new, purely because it's now an old product :(

Good luck....

I'm on the Uk site is the link only available on Wednesdays? I can't see it.

Also can you use an education discount on top?

in the US, you can't use the educational discount on top of the refurbished discount, kinda stupid
check out the edu prices compared to the refurbed, usually they're higher but sometimes they're the same

Not sure about the educational discount - the link is only available on the Main Apple Store page, not the education store. It is always there, but you can only accept the conditions and go through to it on a Wednesday (sometimes not at exactly 10). It's worth phoning the Apple Store and asking about the Edu discount, though I doubt they'll do it....

If you do go down the Refurb route, it's good to get someone at the Store on your side before you go to buy on the Wednesday, and then call them at 9:55 - that's what I did and both ladies I spoke to were very helpful, (with lovely Irish accents...). This way, they can check the system and put the order through quickly for you, before anyone else swipes the bargains.

PS The link looks like a recycling logo, and is near the bottom on the right.

Depending on what you're looking for, this place sometimes has good deals:

Also, dealmac.com frequently posts refurb deals, both on the Apple store and elsewhere, and you can get a daily e-mail subscription.

I got my 15" Powerbook from Smalldog, and both the computer and company rock! Very knowledgible, friendly, and the best of all: socially conscious. Oh yeah, and they have macs :p
