For those of you running XP with Parallels, VMware, or Boot Camp: where did you get your version of Windows XP? I can't believe some of the prices I am seeing . I have a copy of Vista but I want to avoid installing it at all costs (except monetary ones)!

You can find legit copies of XP home for about $90-$100 on ebay. Pro goes for about 140 if I remember correctly. I just picked up a copy from there, brand new. I was very pleased.

an old xp box on ebay? if the sticker's on it...
or someone who's about to throw their machine away

Took my old laptop, sucked out the serial number and installed Ubuntu. Now I've got a free disc, free serial number and a new OS to play around with.

You can install windows on more than one machine...It's not illegal if you only use one at a time... right?

If you are a college student, you can get an academic license for cheap at most universities. I can get XP pro for about $60 right now, I can also get vista for that much as well as Leopard.
