Best program for a media center?

I'm not looking for a program to run for my Mac to act as a media center on my new TV, but a program that can control my PC that I plan to hook up to the TV. Should I just use a program like RealVNC? Or should I try installing MythTV on my old computer? I mainly want to use the PC as a DVD player and to play some of my video files.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
