I know there is a lot of info on the forums about cases.

Getting my 24 year old son his first smart phone, the iPhone 4S. He is REAL rough on phones. Drops them, scratches them, etc.

Even with a bumper or Otter case, I'm worried about scratching the screen with keys, etc in pocket. I don't like the plastic screen protectors.

I'm thinking of getting him the standard bumper for when he is using the phone and trying to find a holster of sorts that will hold the phone with bumper when in his pocket.

Any thoughts on a holster that will accommodate a bumper or any other thoughts on max protection? Thanks.

I'd definitely recommend a screen protector for the front of the device in addition to a pretty tough case.

A quick Google search revealed the following:

Obviously those wouldn't support the new 4S's form factor unless the manufacturer makes an updated model, but you get the idea -- they definitely make some pretty big cases for max protection.

Some of the bigger cases should be able to work around a bumper, but if the case wraps around the entire device anyway, I'm not sure a bumper would be necessary.

stay AWAY from a bumper if he is rough on phones!!! it'll be broken in days, if he is rough id get him the otter box defender case! great case! I work in the construction field and i've dropped it off a 2 story building and not even a scratch on it!!

Tell him to buy his own that way he will want to take care of it, because he paid for it.

I think at 24 years of age he should be plenty capable of knowing not to put keys or change in the same pocket that he keeps his $700~ smartphone. But that's just my opinion!

I'd tell your 24 year old son to be careful with it and wish him luck.

:p

Keys and such won't scratch the front of the phone btw. Will scuff up the back a bit though.

If my son was 24 and not taking care of phones, he'd be buying his own! Mine's almost 17 and in almost 4 years, has only destroyed/damaged 1 of his phones.

That's what you think

In all seriousness though, Otterbox Defender. I own 3 Commuters and one Defender and I love them all.

Mine doesn't have a scratch on it.

It's always in a pocket with change or keys.
