What programs, and formats and resolution should one use to get the best movie quality on the Ipod touch?

Also with sound?

with converting and all. whats the sharpest, brightest and clearest image you can get...? can Ipod Touch handle HD videos with 60 frames per second?

what programs are good to use? iMovie - can you convert in that program? sony vegas? final cut pro?

For DVD conversion I use Handbrake. It has the preset for iPod called "iPod Hi Res" - its the maximum quality current firmware allows on iPods.

Yes its free. It can only encode DVDs though.

If you want to encode non-DVD files, iSquint will do the job. It eats pretty much every format I've come across. Too bad it doesn't support 2 pass encoding, but its free so I can't complain.

Its free. It will only work with actual DVD's or the Video_TS folder. For iPod Touch you want the iPhone/iPod Touch setting, for iPod classic you want the iPod high res setting etc. etc.
