I have had lots of experience using Disk Warrior and own the latest version, Ver. 4.1.1 (the CD I have won't boot the latest Macs but I have only an older Powermac G5 so never mind). However I have no experience regarding the capabilities of Drive Genius. Any advice on whether or not it is worth the purchase? As a complementary application or stand-alone?

I use both. Sometimes you need to do more deep cleaning, which is where Drive Genius 2 comes in. It has many more options than DiskWarrior and is a great compliment to DiskWarrior.

fsck -fy /

and

diskutil repairpermissions /

will do everything you need to repair on a disk.

For hard drive maintenance and recovery, I use SpinRite.

Pros: I've used SpinRite to recover so many Hard Drives, be it Mac, Windows, etc. It really works well.

Cons: At this time, you need to connect your Hard Drive to a PC to use the software.

Both Disk Warrior and Drive Genius are good. However, IMHO, SpinRite is the best of the three. It has saved my bacon so many times when the others wouldn't help.
