The scanner I have (Canon LIDE 4200) does not work with the Mac. The reviews of other scanners from Canon are crap for usage with Mac. Canon seems to dominate scanners. I just need fast, slim and mainly for B+W text pages.

The 4200 scanner should work fine on a Mac (like all the other Canon scanners) Download the Mac driver from the Canon website .. :)

Epson Scanners

I have used Epson scanners for about 20 years. All have produced superior results. I am a professional graphic designer and I need a good scanner.

While not as thin as most canon's they are still good.

I have an AIO Epson RX700(been discontinued and replaced with the RX680). I got it before I switched to macs. Ive had no problems with it working with leopard, printing, scanning, and everything works great...

Canon LIDE 70 here

It works just fine with Macs and MAC OS X (Tiger and Leopard). I did download software updates from the Canon site to have the latest and greatest compatibility and functionality.

If you look at the reviews at apple.com and amazon.com, the Canon series for Apple Mac sucks in terms of software.

My Canon Lide 25 worked fine up until 10.5.4 (but it's not what I'd call a "fast" scanner). After the 10.5.4 update it won't recognize that a scanner driver is loaded. I had to go out and get Vuescan and it works great again. Have you tried Vuescan?

Another vote for epson from me.

Currently using a 4490 and it's wonderful!

I have also used a canon, the 4400 i think but the software was horrible and you had to fight it to get the colors looking right.

I agree, I tried a friends Canon scanner, software sucked! Epsons software is good and offers ways to adjust the pictures scanned. Epson used to bundle LaserSoft Photoshop plugin software. I liked this software and use it over Epson's since i work in Photoshop almost every day!
