I have a Mac Mini 2018/2020 I7 and want to get a new display for it, but it look 'complicated'.
Some of the maximum 'display' size announced by Apple for this hardware doesn't always work looking at stories in this forum.
I am looking for a 27" or a 3x" curved ? for day to day work, programming, netfix, and some light gaming.
I am looking at the 27MD5KB-B LG 5k Ultrafine 27".

Until now I use Dell display (before 4k stuff), but dell and osx isn't always a happy marriage.

I also use a Macbook pro 16" 2019 for work, soon to be refreshed by a new M2 laptop,
I know my next mac mini will be a new M2/M3 something when I will be ready to leave the intel world.
(still needing intel for docker work container, windows in parallel for Taxes ...)

So what is my best shot to replace my aging 2014 24" Dell Monitor ?

Thanks.

The 2018 Mini integrated graphics have trouble scaling video, unless it's by a factor of 2 (such as 3840x2160 scaled to 1920x1080). Quite a lot was written about this a number of years ago, it works but makes the Mini hot which can cause throttling which affects performance.

I read so much about this, I decided to get a monitor that would produce readable text at its native resolution when I got my 2018 Mini. So, I don't have any personal experience with this issue but can tell you that my 32" BenQ QHD (2560x1440) screen works very well at native resolution.

Of course, an eGPU is one solution for this problem. But that is expensive and has issues of its own.

I'm still happy with 27" 1440p IPS displays, might work for you, too. There are multiple options well under $300. Some, like the Samsung S27A600UUU, even support 90W PD over USB-C. That would be enough to power your MacBook Pro.
