I've recently finally moved to the Photos app instead of iPhoto but, frankly, I'm not really sure how to best use this thing. I set up my Mac and iPhone to sync the pictures with the iCloud photo library, but it is super slow. Partly because my iMac only has 1 mb/s upload. It took me days to transfer 900+ pictures and about 100 videos (mostly very short).

Then I found that when I'd look at one of these on the phone bigger than the thumbnail, it would download a better version (and videos could take a very long time! So I changed the setting to just store the full version of each. Again, took ages to get it all.

Also, when I plug in my phone to my computer, it says I have about 450 things to sync (out of the 1000+ total). Makes no sense. All the photos on it, except for a small handful I took more recently, were already moved there from the cloud when my Mac uploaded to the cloud. What gives?

Meanwhile, I'm thinking maybe this isn't the best solution for me, but I'm not sure what will work. My thought is this:

1. Keep all pictures and videos on my Mac in full resolution.
2. Have them also uploaded to iCloud.
3. But change the iPhone to sync pictures via iTunes rather than the cloud (like I used to do). I'm almost always at my computer daily so syncing via iTunes is not a problem. I'm also fine with all the stuff stored on my iPhone at full resolution since I have 128 gb. And, if I recall correctly, I could always set iTunes to only sync specific albums.
4. If I do it this way, can I still do iCloud photo sharing with only my Mac syncing to the cloud?

Is there anything I missed?

Thanks.
