For the past several years I've always used an Apple remote to give presentations on my laptop, and was totally happy with it -- it was simple, easy, and (most importantly) reliable.

Unfortunately, with the lack of an IR sensor in the MacBook Air, that's no longer possible. I've never used any other remotes/presenters before (and no iPhone, etc) so looking for suggestions as to the best solution.

The two possibilities I can think of are buying a USB IR adapter for the MBA, or going the more conventional route of a Bluetooth presenter. The IR option is obviously a pain and just band-aids the problem, but the Bluetooth option makes me hesitate because I know some remotes drop the connection or similar, and that's the absolute last thing I want to have to deal with. I don't need hundreds of buttons and features, I just want a small, reliable remote.

Suggestions?

i've used remote buddy and a wii-mote (connects via bluetooth) pretty reliably to control my mini used as a media center.

*small note, only the regular nintendo branded wii-motes are supported, i got a small sized one from a different manufacturer, and couldn't get it to work, and was told by remote buddy support it wouldn't work.

i don't understand why Apple didn't release a Bluetooth Remote when it's slowly removing the IR sensors from its Mac line up....

Maybe Keynote Remote is the iPhone App you're looking for.

As general remote App I can recommend Rowmote Pro.
