I am looking at either Newegg or the OWC SATA III SSDs.

Which 500-1TB SSD will give me the best performance and battery life for the buck?

Crucial MX100. Quote from the review here:

All in all, I have nothing negative to say about the MX100. With the performance and feature set, combined with pricing that basically doubles the amount of storage you get for your dollar, it's an absolute no-brainer. Unless you are an enthusiast or professional with a heavy IO workload, the MX100 is currently the drive with the best bang for the buck in the market by far.

Samsung EVO SSD is a good choice also.

Do not buy the OWC. Overpriced and they use a Sandforce controller that IMO has not been particularly reliable.

I would like to recommend Samsung SSD 840 PRO which is the one I am using in my MBP. Works great and has made my MBP waaaayy snappier.

I have a 750 GB Samsung 840 EVO that I got from Amazon for $400. The price keeps fluctuating.

The SSD is great, and faster than some of the Apple SSD's. Best $400 spent.

We love Samsung's EVOs here at work.

Just picked up a couple of 500GB for $240 each
