What is the best SSD under $400 and over 100GB?
I want very high transfer speeds and a long read/write cycle life.

If you are just using a single drive then the Pro should be fine.

From what I read you really only need the more expensive/reliable Pro RE if you want to run a really fast RAID 0 striped pair. If you really want the ultimate data storge get the OWC Data Doubler to replace the SuperDrive with a second SSD.

There are literally dozens of threads on this topic on here, so if you want an argument why I say this just search the forum, but for my money (and for OSX) OCZ has and currently is the best combination of speed and reliability.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

+2 for OCZ. Vertex 2 is where its at right now.

Intel is tried and proven, and their 3rd generation drives are coming out soon
However, OWC has been coming out with some fast drives
