I’m using QuickRes on my 15.4″ rMBP. I tried RDM, but settled on QuickRes. I made a set of four resolutions that I like, and set a keyboard shortcut to cycle through them one by one.

Just out of interest, what resolutions did you make/use?

I have 4 resolutions in my keystroke cycle:

1440×900 HiDPI “Best for Retina”
1680×1050 HiDPI
1920×1200 HiDPI
2880×1800 (native)

Again, I’m on a 15.4″ rMBP. I’d probably have everything one step down if I were on a 13.3″ machine.

I tried QuickRes but found EasyRes to be more polished.

Does EasyRes let you set keyboard shortcuts either for specific resolutions of the user’s choice, or to cycle through a set of resolutions of the user’s choice?

It does not. Changes in resolutions have to be done through the icon in the Menu bar.
