Hi,

I am looking for a topo map for the iphone, something that works like a garmin gps. I want to be able to use it when there is no cell phone service and that the iphone gps is compatible and also prefer to be able to download the free USGS maps.

I know there are a ton of them out there I wanted to find out which is the best before I buy one. The app reviews do not really tell to much. Thanks

There is some really good information on that site.

I mostly use Trail Maps by National Geographic. It works well when I have no cell signal. It's fairly easy to download the maps you need, although you need wi-fi, and I don't think it can be done on your computer.

I also use Maplets for specialized trail maps. It has tons of maps that you can download. Not all of them work with GPS though, but still a wealth of information.

TwoNav

I use TwoNav. It is very versatile TOPO app where you can also buy other high quality maps all over the world, import your own maps, customize screens etc. There is also Mac and PC app to do stuff.

Simpler alternative I use sometimes is Gaia GPS.
