I am in a bit of a dilemma: I currently have an iPhone XR and am looking to upgrade this year. I am not sure whether to get the iPhone 17 or the iPhone 17 Pro Max. This time, I want to keep the phone for about three years. I like the 12 GB RAM, vapor cooling, and improved cameras on the Pro Max. If I were to keep it for three years, which model would hold its value better in percentage terms when I upgrade? I am concerned that the base iPhone 17 may begin to slow down and throttle over time, whereas the Pro Max has significantly more processing power and better cooling

You haven't stated your usage so nobody can give you specific advice. I have no reason to believe an iPhone 17 would be slow in 3 years unless you're using it regularly, for high demanding loads - which I assume you won't be due to still using an XR.

Thank you for your reply
Will be using it for normal stuff like emails social media, route guidance google maps, Waze etc and playing the odd game here or there and taking family photos
