Hi,

Desperately need to replace my 2008 I-mac.

Keen to get the best vfm options on upgrades.

1) 3.2ghz v 3.4 ghz for the difference of 10% uplift....

2) Ram.... Seems consensus would be to buy with basic 8gb and then buy 2x 8gb from crucial off amazon?

3) storage (this is where I am most uncertain) is 3TB fusion the best vfm option....or would you suggest to just go for flash and buy an external hard drive...and if so, is this easy to set up?.... And any pros or cons?

4) external dvd drive...go with the Apple USB super drive...or buy a dvd / Blu ray drive from LG etc?

Welcome all and any feedback......main aim to get the best bang for my buck on a machine that should suffice for the next 4-5 years.

Cheers.

The upgrade to 3TB is not vfm imo, because Apple charge so much for it and you can get external drives for 1/4 the price that will work just as well. Or spend the same amount and get a real nice external drive set up.

I think if you will have it for 4-5 years getting the best processor (3.4) would be a good investment. Upgrading RAM yourself is also cheaper and easy to do, so I would do that.
