ok so as my titles states i want to find one of the best video converter, basically one that will convert most formats. I tried searching the mac app store with not much luck, so what do u use and why? Thanks for the input in advanced :D

i have hanbrake but i tried an .rar file and it didn't work for that. I do many types but for some reason i came across an .rar today id it wouldn't let me convert. so i just wanted to find the ones everyone else uses in general, because the file i wanted to convert in the first place wasn't important.

.rar files are not video files, but compressed archives, thus you either need UnRarX or The Unarchiver to extract the inherent file.

As far as transcoders: Handbrake, MPEG Streamclip, ffMPEGx, Visual Hub, VideoMonkey, ... ; there are many out there, but not one is really the best for all, sometimes one has to use this one, and then one has to use that one.

A .rar file isn't a video file, it is an archive file

I greatly enjoy avidemux over handbrake. It has the same powerful x264 codec (and more) and the ability to accept most everything, but it also gives you quick, easy and convenient filters and time cropping/splicing tools.
