What's the best video player for powerpc?
I'm using Chroma, it is good but I was wondering if there was a better one

XBMC is the fastest. Actually VLC will allow you skip a whole bunch of filters which will increase performance at the expense of image quality. For yify movies at 1080p even skipping ALL filters and post processing on VLC will only give you like 0.4 frames per second but in XBMC 12-13 fps. test yourselfWhat's the best video player for powerpc?

100% agree, I had my PM as a XBMC server before digging out for more active service again and the performance was amazing even on 1080 - far better than any player (mplayer/VLC/Quicktime) - I believe XBMC (v11 upwards) utilises the video card for offloading (mines a 7800GTX) so maybe thats why its so much better.
How would xbmc work on an iBook G4 14" 1.42GHz 1.5GB RAM machine? And do you knwo where I can get the dmg for xbmc 11 or lower? The new requirements since the release of xbmc 12+ is OS X 10.6+

and XBMC looks a lot like PLEX. is there a version of plex that works with PPC that you know of?
expect 720p playback on yours.
Stay away from PLEX! I will force transcoding if you're using a file server.
PLEX is a shell on top of XBMCSo use XBMC instead
Thanks for this! I already downloaded 10.0 and 11.0 just to be safe!
***Update****
11.0 runs TERRIBLY on my iBook. Just not good at all. However, 10.1 runs perfectly and I love it!
Thanks for the advice!

(EDIT: powerbook g4 1.67 HR)
I use XBMC, best quality per CPU cycle.
Btw, love your blog.
Performance in iBook G4 1.2 Ghz is same as Front Row. Chroma is faster than XBMC, so... May be I need that extra .13 Ghz lol
I would like to try that chroma but can't find their page... turned to torrenting and only found a 2007.1 version. the 2009.1 trial I found said it was too old and I had to download a newer version, but chromaplayer.com is down so how did you do it?

Got chroma working with a licenseBack in '06 while I was in college I used to own an ibook G3. Playback was horrible, horrible, even VLC was worthless. Then I tried Chroma Trial and it had an awesome performance, so I went ahead and bought two, one for my iMac (which I still own) and another one for my ibook G3.
Both versions work under Leopard. Glad I bought them
