OK, I guess I could have done a search, but I think my situation is a little different and I really don't want to mess it up.
My wife's Dell laptop died the other day. The HD just quit (ironically, I was installing iTunes 4.8 while it happened). So, when I get the new HD from Dell, I'll have to reinstall everything including her iTunes library back-up. Oh wait, we never backed up her library (I have backed up all purchased songs, though).
So here's what I have at my disposal.
My iBook with my own iTunes Library.
An external Firewire/USB hard drive that's never really worked well with the Dell.
Her iPod 6GB with her entire library (not sure if it's entirely updated).
Obviously, my best option is to get her Library off the iPod and onto the Dell, but we've never set that iPod up for multi-computer use. If I plug in the iPod on the Dell after re-installing all software, will iTunes want to re-format the iPod? Also, what's a good Windows app to use to get songs off the iPod? Would it be easier to use my iBook to extract the music off the iPod?
Thanks.
