Best way to edit a .mp4 (mpeg 4)?

I have a few .mp4 files and I need to snip off a few seconds from them. Is there a free program I can download to do this?

Is iMovie the best way? I tried to import the .mp4 into iMovie, and it was taking like 10 minutes to import a 40MB .mp4. Is there some small, fast little freeware app that can do what I want?

Not free but QuickTime Pro can edit mp4 files...

i believe there is some other software out there too, but i use quicktyme

Although I haven't used it to trim clips (I have QT Pro), MPEG Steamclip is free and can do the job. It's also a pretty good video swiss army knife to have around for various other video editing-related chores that QT Pro can't do.
