I've just bought a new 2018 13" MacBook Pro, and want to connect it to a Dell P2715Q 4K monitor, and also add some form of USB C hub for legacy USB A devices. Assuming I don't want to go for a full hub like the OWC / CalDigit etc. route (£££), is the best way to get 4K/60HZ to the monitor to use a dedicated USB C to (mini)DisplayPort cable, and use another of the USB C ports for something like a Satechi hub? I think this is the simplest / cheapest route, as I haven't found a hub that does DisplayPort at 60Hz (Satechi have one with miniDP but it only does 30Hz). So, is that going to be the cheapest / easiest route, or is there another solution I should look at?

Thanks.

That's how I'd do it.
I'll guess that the best connection to the display would be "a standalone connection" with nothing "in-between".

Use another USB-c port for your other connections.

Thanks, good to know I am thinking along the right lines.

Hi,
I just bought a USB-C to mDP adapter (Networx) and a normal mDP to DP cable to connect the same monitor as you habe. It works correctly:

Code:
> system_profiler SPDisplaysDataType | grep DELL -A 2
        DELL P2715Q:
          Resolution: 3840 x 2160 (2160p 4K UHD - Ultra High Definition)
          UI Looks like: 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz

Check out the just released Caldigit miniDock - Dual HDMI 2.0 ports as well as Ethernet and USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports.
Above all else it can output 4K60 to dual displays.
There is a displayport version also available.

Ive just taken delivery of both units and a review will be up soon on my channel - but build quality is fantastic!
