im currently and ATT customer. however i want to buy the iphone 6 straight up. no contract extension or next program. i want to pay the full $749.99 for the 64gb.

am i limited to buying just ATT devices or could i buy say a TMobile/Sprint/Verizon device and just put my sim card in seeing as how im buying the phone out of contract?

would i get the same LTE speeds/bands from my sim card in a non ATT device?

im asking because i thought i read this would work with a Tmobile iphone, however when i called a TMobile store that had the phone in stock he told me that i could not use my ATT sim card in it even if i bought it straight, out of contract.

is that specific to the apple store or could i go into a verizon store and get one?

apple stores around me dont have any 64gb models. they sell out early in the morning and i work so i cant get one unless i go during lunch or after work. the carrier stores like tmobile have them in stock. this is why im asking.

ok i did some research and found out that my ATT sim will work in a Verizon iphone. my dad has an upgrade for verizon that he doesnt use. will i be able to use his upgrade to get an iphone and then take that phone and put my ATT sim card in it? or does the device have to be bought off contract for my ATT sim card to work in it?

All Verizon LTE iPhones come GSM unlocked regardless of whether it's an upgrade, bought outright, from Verizon, or Apple. Use your dad's upgrade and pop your AT&T SIM card. You'll be just fine.

I did just this. it worked perfectly. best buy did a great job with the switch back and forth between my dad's phones. all I had to do was get a nano sim and call up att to activate it when I got home. can't beat a 128gb iPhone for $400 when you were pretty much willing to pay close to a thousand out of contract.

everything seems to work great (LTE) but I was wondering if I get ATTs full LTE capacity on this "verizon" phone? would an ATT branded iPhone be faster, slower, the same speeds as this Verizon one with my ATT sim?

It'd be the same. When the iPhone 5 was released, Verizon iPhones would not connect to AT&T LTE. This was changed when the iPhone 5S came out. The hardware on an AT&T iPhone 6 is the same hardware as a Verizon iPhone 6.

I'm amazed how in just three short years we've gone from the iPhone only working on AT&T and having to hack it to get it to work half-assed on T-Mobile, to such excellent support for all the carriers.

Makes me wonder why Apple let so many long years go by with so little choice in carrier.

I preorder the 6 plus from Apple.com for AT&T (will buy the phone full price, thus will be unlocked) From what you're saying I could simply go with a Verizon plan?

Nope

You want the Verizon phone, which will work on everything but Sprint networks.

Except someone needs to tell the Sprint CEO it is 2014. They seem to be wallowing in their own insulated world...

Yeah, I seriously wonder what's up with them. You'd think they'd be doing everything humanly possible to make it as easy as possible for people to bring their own hardware to Sprint. They're not exactly wallowing in subscribers.

But they continue to be buttheads. I don't get it.

Yes, I'm saying you can use a Verizon SIM on an unlocked iPhone 6 from AT&T or T-Mobile. Yes, you can use a Verizon iPhone plan on the unlocked iPhone 6. They have the same hardware.

You don't need to necessarily get the Verizon version. Please see post above.

I've read the post above briefly. Since I'll be a new customer to Verizon, will i be getting problems activating the unlocked ATT iphone 6+?

Okay, thanks! Just need the phone to get to me on Thursday and will update.

If you had an older iPhone from Verizon, it would help. People who have been using Verizon SIM cards already had them activated. Yes, please keep us updated.
