best way to get material from SKY to ATV

I want to get material from SKYHD box to save and play back via apple TV (with ATV Flash so file format not essential) I plan to copy from SKY to a Panasonic EX79 HDD recorder, burn to DVD, copy to PC and then sync with Apple TV....is that the best way or does anyone have a better way to preserve quality??
