Best way to gift an iphone 3g?

Anyone have any suggestions, creative or otherwise to gift a 3g iphone to someone?

I've heard conflicting talk about gift cards and purchasing an iphone. Anyone know what the deal is there? I'm in NY.

Pretty sure I remember several threads saying you can't use gift cards to purchase an iPhone but I can't find any after a search.

Yah well i just called the apple store near me. The guy said as long as it's not an itunes gift card it's fine. A regular gift card they accept..

so he says hehe

Cant see any reasons why they wouldn't accept regular gift cards. As far as apple would be concerned they are same as cash.
