So I want the 3GS but I have a 3G and I have the type of parents who say "oh you already have a phone" etc etc. I'm on a family plan so I cant go ahead and do anything myself. My dad is the primary on the account. What im thinking is...

1) Order 3GS from AT&T
2) Wait for it to arrive, then sell 3G (unlocked) on craiglist (HOPEFULLY for 400)
3) Pay dad back for 3GS costs
4) Walk into AT&T and have them activate the 3GS.

Thats the easiest way right? I don't want to be between phones for an extended time and get screwed over so that is the only way I see it. Convincing my parents is the hardest part of this.

Any other ideas?

how old is the iPhone? good luck on getting that much for a 3G
I bought one off ebay still new for $300 and it was a white 16GB.

let me know if you still wanna sell it. email me nezff@hotmail.com

You're not going to get 400 for your iPhone. I sold my 16gb iPhone with AppleCare for 330 and while it wasn't unlocked Im not sure you'll see 400 when there's a ton of used iPhones on eBay and craigslist

$400? That's pretty optimistic of you.

Ever since the 3G went down in price and the 3GS was released, there was a big increase of 3G's on cragilist and ebay. You'll probably sell your 3G in the 300-350 range, depending on the condition and if it's JB/unlocked or not.

maybe you should convince your parents first, then sell your 3G, then buy the 3GS if you have the funds to do so.

1) Sold 3G first used funds to buy 3GS
2) Used backup Moto L2 with my current SIM (iPhone plan had not negative effect)
3) See #1
4) Did it with ATT CS right over the phone :)

I sold my 3G 8GB Black iPhone with a cracked screen updated to 3.0 and jailbroke for $425 I think on eBay just a couple days after I bought the 3GS on release day.

Am I the only person that thought to sell it before the launch? I got $470 right after 3G S was announced. I could live a week without an iPhone for $170.

Wow. According to other posts, my dad got really lucky. He just sold his 16gb 3GS on eBay for $499 unlocked!
