I'd like to upgrade my HDD - what's the best way to image my current harddrive and transfer it to the new one? I am aware CarbonCopyCleaner can image my current partitions, but how do I transfer them to the new HDD?

Get an external USB HDD enclosure for 2.5" or 3.5" HDDs, put the new HDD into it, use CCC to clone the internal drive to the one in the external USB enclosure, exchange HDDs and you're done.

Now you can boot from the new HDD and use the older HDD as a backup or storage HDD due to the external USB HDD enclosure, which cost around 15€.
