Best way to learn about various lenses?

Hi, I was just wondering what would be the best way to learn about the world of camera lenses. I have a basic knowledge of camera lenses, but i know there is soo much more to learn and I want to get moving on it. Also when it comes to video and HD I was wondering where to brush up a bit more on sensors and how to compare them?
Thanks for any links or book recommendations!
