have old G 4 with many files, itunes, movies, etc that I want to move to new imac when I get it in July. Looking for suggestions on how to best accomplish that. It has been many years since I have had a new computer and not sure about all the new procedures.

thank for the info. just checking if those methods will also work with os 10.4 tiger which is what my g 4 has?

It will work with ANY OS. Just hold Command+T when you turn on the G4, then connect the firewire cable between them.

I plan on getting both a SSD and an internal drive. Will I be able to direct all the files including iPhoto and iTunes to the internal hard drive? Thanks

Yes, as you can choose where to store the iPhoto Library file and where to store the music and the iTunes Library file.
To select a library file in iPhoto or iTunes, just hold down the OPTION key when clicking the iTunes or iPhoto icon.
