iPod Best way to recover songs from an iPod?

i want to download all my songs from my ipod onto my mac. a few years ago i used a third party application to this. as a result a lot of my songs were messed up.

now i'm wondering how i should tackle it this time. can anyone recommend an app? or is it better to do it with mac os x (as described at Recovering Songs from an iPod) and stay away from third party apps?

The 3Rd party applications have come a long way, i'd personally recommend iPodDisk, link given in the MacRumors guide.

Frankly that article is fairly horrible as it involves using the Terminal, personally I'd recommend [guide]Senuti[/guide] though it hasn't been updated for ages.
