I'm running Tiger, and have been a switcher since '02, and never have I encountered such a mess with security. Via an online movie rental service (who shall remain anonymous) my checking account was "hacked", or however it was done. Since then I've been very paranoid about "securing" my computer and I've been wondering if there is anything safer than the built in firewall?

Much thanks:confused:

NSA guide

I've used the OS X 10.3 guide for Mac security from the NSA to configure my system. There is also a guide for 10.4.x.

It's pretty straightforward. (The key stuff is only a few pages, so don't freak at the 100+ pages in the document). See link in this article:

Of course, the problem is likely not on your mac side, but perhaps in the 'online movie rental' side, or your password choice, etc. I'd be asking them a few questions.

Of course, hopefully you're using WPA etc on your wireless router, if you have one...
