I have seen a few recently-brought-back zombie threads that say a plugin called clicktoflash (i think that's what it's called) is the way to go. Anybody else got any suggestions?

Clicktoflash is what I use, just add flash you want to load to the whitelist and it will load automatically.
Did you even search here? This thread was started a mere yesterday, and was found three spots away from yours.
