I was in the Apple Store today and one of the Specialist said all I have to do is turn on the Xs while the X is in the same WiFi network and "everything" will move over. Previous years I'd do an iTunes backup on my Mac and then do a 'restore' so that all settings and passwords for apps email etc. move over. Restoring from an iCloud backup is more work as some settings/passwords aren't restored from an iCloud backup. The Specialist called this new iPhone to iPhone restore Quick-something . . . Quick Start? Quick Setup? Have you heard of this? And which method is better, iTunes Backup or Quick Setup?

Hmm that sounds interesting. Does this basically accomplish the exact same thing as an iCloud restore, except without having to download from the internet? Like all settings and messsges and everything will restore exactly as they were? I’ve always done iCloud restore to new phones but I may try this new way this year and see how it goes.

The specialist was correct. It makes for a fast setup on a new device. I have done it several times.

My iPad Pro was set up by having my iPhone nearby on the same WiFi. The apps, passwords and everything transferred. Outside of this, I would set it up from an iCloud backup.

I am not sure this method can be done if you own an Watch. Need to do an encrypted backup unless you don't care about losing all of your watch data.

I just did it. Very cool.

Thanks. Maybe I did this with my iPad Pro last year and didn't remember, but this was fantastic and easy.
