Hi

I am planning on getting a new mac, however I have transfer them without my old mac. I have all the external hard drive space I need.

But whats the best way to backup then restore my files on my new mac?

I have a Time Machine backup, but I don't want an 'old system files' folder, I want it to be a straight transfer is possible.

Thanks.

Migration Assistant or Time Machine are probably the easiest.

If you know what files you want to keep, and don't want to install anything just yet, copying over LAN or extral harddrive is not a problem. For example, when I got my new laptop, all I wanted to do was transfer music. I just replaced the iTunes folder on my new mac with the one on my old mac, fired up iTunes, had to wait just a bit, and good to go.
