What is the best way to save and/or export voicemails from my Sprint 4s? I'm moving from a Sprint 4s to a Sprint 5. I don't need the voicemails on the new phone but would like to save them somewhere in the easiest way possible.

Voicemail is not store locally on your phone. They are located on your carriers' server. You can even access them from a landline.

Are they stored both on the phone and with the carrier? I can still listen to voicemails while in airplane mode. Is there a way to save them off the phone from either location?

Is that right? That's totally news to me.

yes it is.

keep it simple, back up 4s to itunes, restore the 5 from backup, everything is there.

Are there any special settings that must be set? Everything transferred over except the voicemails.

when you restore from b/u the voice mail will be there too, don't know how to not have the vm back up.

I restored my wife from iTunes to an iPhone 5 and only 2 voicemails appeared. I restored from my 4s to an iPhone 5 and about 10/200 voicemails loaded. Both phones were backed up to iTunes minutes before restoring them. Why would only a few of the messages appear?

I'm not sure, when I did it I had about 10 vm on the old phone and they were there on the new phone.

Is there any other way to copy off the voicemails? Some are from a deceased family member and need to be saved.
