Santa brought me a new Series 4 Nike 44mm watch to replace my aging Series 0. What is the best/proper way to unpair my old watch from my XR, and to pair my new watch, without losing any data. I’d like to eventually sell my old watch. Is there a good guide somewhere?
When I had to transfer my Series 0 watch from my old iPhone 8+ to my new XR a few weeks ago I ran into some trouble. Loooing for the right way/order to do things here.
Thanks! And Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas.

When you set up the new watch, select the restore from backup option

You can leave the old watch paired as well if you decide not to sell it. Personally I do not think you will get much at all for a Series 0.

I’m also upgrading from the S0 to the S4, but a shipping snafu delayed mine until Friday :(

I would be surprised if anyone wants to buy a Series 0 on Craigslist or eBay, but people can be surprising. There is also the trade in route. Best Buy will give $40 store credit for a Series 0 aluminum. Since it’s not worth much I think my plan will be as follows:
  • Keep the series 0 as a backup and use it for sleep tracking. Technically I can do that with one watch just as I’ve been doing for years: charge it up before bed, wear it for sleep tracking, top off charge while I get ready for work. A second watch will be more convenient though.
  • Keep it around as a curio to pass down to my kids. Of course it won’t be useful in 20 years, but they might think it’s neat to have their dad’s original Apple Watch even if it no longer powers on. I have my dad’s old Pulsar (the first digital LED Watch). It no longer works, but I cherish it.

Thanks. I wasn’t aware that Best Buy was giving $40. Do you get to keep the charger and band? I know apple was only giving $25. I figured I might get $50 for it privately, so the Best Buy route seems pretty good.

I don’t think you have to give them a band or a charger. I think just the watch. I traded my iPhone 6 to Best Buy for significantly more than Apple would give me. It was the same situation as the iPhone 6 wasn’t exactly in demand.

Turned in an S0, no trade in. Just gave them the watch, nothing else----
