Last night I went to my local BestBuy to purchase Final Cut Express 4 and it was out of stock. A BB employee stock checked all stores here in San Diego, California (we're the 7th largest city in the U.S.) and told me FCE 4 is out of stock in all San Diego BestBuy stores, plus, all stores in neighboring cities. (San Marcos, Oceanside, etc) There was 1 in stock in the city of Chula Vista.

So I drove up to the Apple Store in Escondido and slipped in just before closing time. The Apple Store had just 1 in stock. I decided to not purchase it, thinking that the lack of inventory may be a sign that FCE 5 will be coming out soon.

The moment I walked out of the Apple Store I phoned the BBFB (Best Buy for Business) department of a local BB store and the guy told me that his computer shows that FCE 4 has been discontinued from BestBuy's system.

FCE 4 came out in November 2007.

I'm hoping FCE 5 will be out soon! Looking forward to
some anticipated features, such as 1920 x 1080 support.
(FCE 4 supports up to 1440x1080)

Has anyone heard anything about FCE 5 ??
 
i believe there will be an update to Final Cut, Aperture, Logic Pro and maybe Shake (as a stand alone) in a few weeks, or atleast announced

In general, I'm surprised at how quiet it's been
wtih regards to FCE rumors!

I am disappointed to find that there was no FCE5 announcement. I need it within a month. How likely is it going to be out during this time frame?

they predict FCS 3 and FCE 5 probably won't be released until the release of
Snow Leopard later this year. Here's a quote from that thread:

If they come out with an update in a few months for FCE, does that mean buyers of previous versions will get the update for free, or do they pay a fee to upgrade?

I just bought an FCE 4 upgrade copy at the Apple flagship London, UK store (Regents Street) and it was the last one they had in the entire store.
On the one hand I was relieved I got the last copy but on the other hand I can't help feeling another version is due soon and I've just helped to clear the last of the old stock... we shall see....
