Try typing "donato" without the quotes. For me it always ends up donati. I then have to click the back space and re-enter the "o" to get it correct. Anyone able to do it? I'll give a quarter to whoever can do it. :D

Turn off predictive text then type MacBoobsPro is great. :p

FYI: I managed to do it with predictive text enabled no problem.

Fail.

Same thing happens with some other words (I think MacBR?). It's because the area for typing the next key is so large for I because that's what it expects. Kinda weird.

this is pissing me off, i CLEARLY hit the O, and it lifts the I up.... tried like 10 times, D O N A T.. I... wtf so weird

EDIT!!!!!!! okay hit DONATP, hold the P down then move back and forth between P and I, it skips O every time!!

Yeah...it sucks. Try having that as your last name and having to type it all the time.

This is the "smart keyboard".

Why don't you guys use a more common word. Try typing "Pizzs" instead of pizza.

You mean like this Donato :)

Sorry had to. ;)

Donat0 ;)

It never recognized the word the first try, that's odd. Even pressing and holding it towards the O character will not work.

Very odd behavior...

I typed "donat", then pressed a key, and moved my finger around to switch letters.

It skipped w, r, u, and o. But only those. It doesn't skip any letters on any other line.

What the hell is "donatq"? Or donatt, donaty, or donatp?

Obviously, "donate" is a word, and "donati" can be expanded to donation (among others.) But I can't find a single word that begins with any of the four above that does allow...

According to wiktionary, "donator" is an English word (plus "donators".) There are also the Italian "donato", and two more Italian words beginning with "donato", plus two with the disallowed "donatr".

Why would they allow the four goofy ones above, but not donator?

So we have four disallowed, and six allowed letters on the top row once you have typed "donat". Of the allowed letters, only two can produce valid English words. Of the disallowed letters, one can produce valid English words, and one can produce valid Italian words.

You're right it has no intention of wanting to spell Donato.
Try this:

Type "donat"
Click 'Q' and slide you finger across towards the "P"
Notice how it doesn't even show the 'O'
wtf!

Edit: Beaten by 4 minutes, see above.

Worked for me first time. HONEST.... Must be the jailbreak

Landscape!

Aha!

Opie's post made me think of it.

It works fine in landscape mode. I can type every letter on the top row after "donat" in landscape, but not portrait. Apparently with the extra room per letter, the autocorrect doesn't make the 'good' letters target areas overlap the 'bad' letters completely.

In landscape mode, the 'good' letters still have large target areas, but not so large as to completely obscure the 'bad' letters. (Try it, open Safari, flip to landscape, then type "donat" (in the address or search boxes works,) then press 'q', and very slowly slide your finger across the top row. You'll find some letters have very small target areas, some have large target areas. My guess is that in portrait mode, those 'bad' letters have shrunk down to *zero* target area.
