You NEED:
* iPhone (2g or 3g) [sorry no iPod Touch]
* A mac with leopard
* A digital camera
* An account on our forums (so we can give you access to the super secret testing forum)

Nice if you have either:
* iPhoto 09
* Aperture

Do I need to take hundreds of photos each day with either my digicam or the iPhone one?

nope, don't need hundreds of photos. you just need to use your camera and phone to test the app..and its desktop piece
