Apple is making a huge mistake removing Split View & Slide Ove. It's like they are saying: "You wanted to control your iPad like a Mac, well there you go, that's the only way you will".

I believe the "Full Screen" option that's on iPadOS 26 is the same as the "Off" option that's currently in iPadOS 18. Why?! I believe no more than 0.00001% of the population has their iPad on Off. They default for an iPad should be SplitView & Slide Over.

Everything that was announced for iPadOS 26 is amazing for the larger 13" iPads and for using it with external displays, but for people that have 11" iPads and iPad mini, the SV and SO, is specially useful.

Slide over is great for adding the calculator app, music app or notes app, while working in something else. There is no reason for them to removing it, other than them being petty to force people use the iPad as they want.

I hope if many people "complain", they will add it back, although it's not about complaining, it's just that it's the entire functionality of the iPad when is being used as a tablet and not as a computer.

Having the default option being the "off", it removes everything you can do, and it leaves it as iPad OS 1.0, as iPhone OS was back in 2007!

This need to be back! How many people actually use the iPad as a computer? Limiting to just one window open at a time, it's crippling!

Please Beta testers (developers and public when it comes out), tell Apple to bring it back!

No thanks. I’m very happy to see the end of the three dots at the top of the page. It was always clunky and too easy to hit by mistake. Good riddance.
Just bring it back as an option without the 3 dots. I don’t think those were always a part of it and yes they are annoying.

I think split view might still be useful as a very straightforward way of having multiple apps open without finicky gestures. The new windowing feature in v26 is especially handy in combination with a mouse, not so much when doing simple stuff on the couch. But this is my own impression, other's mileages might vary of course.

If you hold down on the three dots, you can still split the screen with two apps, just like macOS. You can even slide them to different sizes, just like the old split screen.

But no slide-over. You can kinda do it with windows, but it’s way more fiddly. That’s the one I really miss. I’d stick to the “full screen apps” setting.

One more thing. Perhaps if I had the 13” (which I don’t), or if I used an external monitor (which I don’t), I’d like windows better. It makes the UI seem way more crowded on my tiny 11” screen.

One advantage between Split View/Slide over compared to Stage manager was keyboard shortcuts. Does the new system have any way to move windows around using keyboard shortcuts?

If you go into settings and tap Multitasking.... It gives you ways to have a split screen. I have tried a number of times following their directions but I cannot get split screen to work.
Had anybody been able to get split screen to work in iOS 26?
