Hi

I was going to order my Macbook i7 with the 5200rpm drive and use it for backup!

I would like to go down the SSD route 128Gb is enough what better current models are out there for £200-£250 I seen a kingston SSDnow V series are they better then apples offering?

Or is apples SSD a bargain?

Thanks

V + has the same controller but a little different firmware.
It is probably equal or a little worse than Apple's offering. If you get it do it because it is cheaper.
If you want something faster. Look for Indilinx, Intel, Sandforce controller drives or take a Micron(Curcial C300). They are all much better in random access.
The Curcial C300 offers best Price/Performance but is very very young and might still have some bugs. Backups are important.
