iPod touch Better Directions In Maps App?

I was wondering if there was a better way to find directions in the Maps app on the iPod Touch? Just to test out the application I typed in a route that I usually take, however, the directions which were given was some crazy non-intuitive route (I know there are better routes). I tried to change the route that was given to no avail. It's not like the Google maps application online (http://maps.google.com) where you can drag a line (route) over other streets, etc. to change the over directions. Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to give you multiple routes or options.

Any thoughts? If this has already been tackled, please just forward the post.
